Hello everyone!
My best friend and I decided to go on a mini road trip to the Bay area this weekend! We have been planning this for months and I am beyond excited. As I was packing, I thought I should blog about (what I believe) the essentials to bring on a road trip when traveling with friends. So without further ado, here are my 11 Road Trip Essentials:
1.) Camera:
One thing I love about road trips is taking lots of pictures to remember the memories I made with my friends. I recently purchased a Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 Camera and I cannot wait to use it! If you do not know what the Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 is, it is a polaroid camera. I am going to use the polaroids for a future DIY project, so look out for that!
2.) Water Bottle:
Hydration is key when you are traveling. Do not forget to bring a water bottle and when you finish, you can either recycle it or refill it.
3.)Snacks:
Always bring snacks on a road trip; it is cheaper and convenient. You could stop at a quick mart to purchase snacks but it is hard to find healthy snacks. My friend and I going with the healthy route and we are bringing: apples, pita chips and hummus.
4.) Music
Road trips without music sucks. Trust me; I was stuck in a four hour car ride without music and I am pretty sure I fell asleep throughout the entire drive. Update your Iphone or Ipod’s music and create your own playlists. My brother introduced me to Spotify and I personally like it more than Pandora; there are fewer ads and I think Spotify has better music channels. So make sure to download the Spotify app! I love bringing cds; for this trip I will be bringing my Lorde Pure Heroine album (**hint on why we are going out of town).
5.) Portable Phone Charger
The most terrifying thing to witness is your phone battery stating it has 1% left. My dad got me a portable Iphone charger and it is my phone’s life saver (literally); the charger is less than 4 inches long and can easily fit into a clutch. You do not realize how much battery energy you use when you are listening to music, texting people, writing emails, tweeting, liking Instagram pictures and taking selfies. Just make sure to charge your portable charger. I do not know the brand of the charger but I am pretty sure that my dad got mine off of Amazon.
*Fun note: these portable phone chargers would be an amazing Christmas stocking present to give to friends and family members.
6.) Sunglasses
If you are a frequent reader on my blog, you know how much I love wearing sunglasses. Not only do you look cool wearing them, it protects your eyes from damaging your sight. Do not forget these bad boys.
7.) Extra pair of Shoes:
When I was younger, my family and I would travel to the coast every month. One time I brought a pair of boots thinking, “this should be fine, I am golden.” I was not golden; those boots killed my feet. Misery and tears came with every step I took that day. To avoid my painful situation, I would bring an extra pair of comfortable flats or flip-flops just in case. I am bringing my favorite Black Birkenstocks since we will be walking a lot in the city.
8.) Jacket/ Sweater:
The weather can be unpredictable. No matter how many times you check your weather app, bring a jacket or a sweater just in case. My go to jacket I always bring on trips is my Members Only Leather Jacket.
9.) One Duffel Bag:
I feel that when you go on a mini road trip, you only need ONE duffel bag to hold your clothes, toiletries etc. I have friends that will bring two or three duffel bags just for a two day trip; it is unnecessary to bring that many bags and you should probably condense the items you are bringing. Also, having too many duffle bags takes up space for shopping bags.
10.) Money:
This one is very obvious but make sure you have your wallet and enough money on you to pay for expenses (ex. gas, food, clothes etc.)
11.) Toothbrush and Toothpaste:
Ladies and Gentlemen, please please PLEASE bring a toothbrush and toothpaste when you travel. Not only does it help with bad breath, but it also lowers the risk of any tooth decay and gum diseases. You would be surprised how many people I know that do not bring a toothbrush on a road trip. Not brushing your teeth and sporting stinky breath is not cute; proper dental hygiene is cute.
