I was addicted to the Kim Kardashian game.

Hi Everyone!

With the Kardashians making headlines again for Kylie turning 18, I have to get this off my chest. I was addicted to the Kim Kardashian game in July. You’re probably reading that sentence like

Yes I know what you’re going to say, “Laura, seriously the Kardashians?!” and “This game has been out for over a year”, but keep up with me. Keeping up with the Kardashians is one of my guilty pleasures; the Kardashian family is super entertaining, I love Scott Disick’s hilarious phrases and it’s really good background noise.  I like to put that show on while I’m cleaning my house. And as a marketing major, I like watching how the Kardashian/ Jenner clan market themselves; they know who their target audience is and know how to keep their names in the media. Some people have other opinions on the Kardashians; they think they’re annoying, self centered and absolutely fake.

But you have to admit, these girls know how to make money. According to Forbes, Kim Kardashian made $85 Million off her video game. My mom and I were wondering how in the hell does someone make that much just off a video game? I decided to test it out. I know Buzzfeed did a video on people trying the Kim Kardashian Game for the first time but I wanted to try it out myself.

If you never played the game, let me break it down from the beginning. You first create an avatar that works in a clothing store and out of the blue, Kim Kardashian runs into your store to ask for help. She thinks you’re super awesome and tells you she knows a talent agent that would be perfect for you; and that’s when you start your Hollywood journey *cue in Grumpy Cat’s face*. This game makes you do photoshoots, go to club appearances, travel around the world, date other avatars etc. There’s even a part where they talk about starting a family and making babies. If you do well on these events, you can get more money which allows you to shop for clothes for your character.

Now let’s get to the business/ money making part; to do these events, you need energy points. These energy points look like Harry Potter Lightening bolts. It takes a lot of energy to do things so when you run out, you can either wait 5 minutes for one energy point or you can purchase K Coins to purchase the energy points. You could technically cheat and click objects to see if energy points comes out but you still have to wait. What I hated was these events have a time period so if you don’t complete it (due to the fact you’re outta energy points) you will get a tweet saying how much you suck. Then that makes you “lose fans” and go lower on whatever list you’re on.

Another thing I wanted to discuss was K coins; these coins can help you buy more energy, purchase new hairstyles, buy extravagant homes, and Kim Kardashian outfits. However, the game also gives you “money” but the K coins are worth more.. If you don’t have enough K coins, you really can’t do that much. My avatar’s boyfriend dumped her because I didn’t have enough K coins to “fix my relationship” #Heartbroken. Then my “popularity status” went down to the E list. When you’re super impatient, it’s no wonder why it’s super easy to click the purchase button.

I avoided this game for such a long time but once I downloaded it, I thought it was a joke. Minutes later, I couldn’t put my phone down. I found myself playing it for 3 hours straight!!! And the scary part was, I would talk to my mom in a Kim Kardashian voice because, “bible mom, I ran out of energy points”. I decided to do a detox and deleted the app. For my sanity and the sake of my social life, I had to delete it.Kim, you’re very smart making money off of this but in the words of Kim Kardashian West, “I bought you a f**king career” you should give more energy points and K coins.

Today’s post is a little odd but I hope this gave you some insight on the game. If you don’t believe me, try it out for yourself. If you liked today’s post (or thought it was interesting) click the like button. Also please subscribe to my blog! I post every Tuesday and Thursday with an occasional weekend post.

P.S. If my mom is reading this, no mother I did not purchase any K coins or energy points.
